Oshin Voskehat White Dry Wine Reserve 2020

Voskehat is an ancient Armenian autochthonous grape varietal and “the queen” of Armenian grapes. Some of its vines around the country have endured over 150 years and are still fruitful. The cultivation of Voskehat began about 3,500 years ago, as shown by numerous archeological excavations of Teishebaini. During those excavations, the analysis of fossilized seeds showed that some of them belonged to Voskehat. Translating into “golden berry”, Voskehat is a late-ripening varietal that is widespread in Ashtarak, Ejmiatsin, Armavir and Vayots Dzor provinces of Armenia. It is also cultivated in other regions in varietal or mixed vineyards.

Voskehat is characterized by medium, sometimes large, very dense, short conical or winged bunches and medium, white-yellowish, or amber coloured, round berries. The skin is of medium thickness, translucent, covered by a slight layer of bloom and brown spots, the pulp is juicy with pleasant taste.

The vineyard is located at Vayots Dzor province of Armenia.

This small-production label is firmly rooted in Armenian history and culture.

Oshin sources indigenous Armenian wine varieties, Areni and Voskehat, from select growers in Vayots Dzor to produce 700 cases of wine annually. The fruit is grown in volcanic soil on 40-60-year-old vines, and holds special significance for Oshin’s team. The winery’s name honors a medieval monarch, King Oshin of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, who ruled the area in the 14th century.
